Customer Service Experiences...They Are Wonderful:)
- Hrant - Wednesday, September 1, 2010 - 9:50 AMI have been banking w/Darby approx. a couple of years now, and have a substantial amount of funds w/them in couple of stepped up CD's, & no-penalty w/d CD's. Just make sure you are covered under FDIC coverages- just like you should be at any bank
Every time I have a question, or need clarification, the customer service reps I have dealt with have been wonderful. They have answered the questions in a very courteous, professional manner, are extremely diligent, and have treated me like a valued member of their bank. Each time I call, which has been several times over the past couple of years, I have hung up the phone w/a feeling of being an appreciated customer, and have been treated w/ extreme respect.
I wish the banks in New York can be trained by Darby Bank to be as attentive, and customer friendly as they are on a consistent basis. Have spoken to Meagan(few times-EXTREMELY nice), Sharon-likewise, and Jill.
Bravo to customer service...keep up the great work.

- cincincyreds - Sunday, June 20, 2010 - 1:01 AMI still have a 3 year step up cd with this bank. Year one, which I am currently at the end of is 3%, then 4%, then 5%. I've put 220k in it since I don't want to go over the 250k limit for fdic insurance. I am allowed to constantly put money into it anytime I want and to withdraw funds anytime I want. Currently, you have to be a Georgia resident to open an account with this bank. I don't think they offer this deal anymore, but they are very receptive to e-mail and picked up the phone the one time I had a question. I use this cd as an emergency fund. If I feel rates can be higher somewhere else on the anniversary I can always pull the money out.

Your Money Is Now Held Hostage!
Usually when a bank fails, they give the option to get your money out (by mailing you a check or doing an electronic transfer or something) - most often without a charge somehow. Darby has basically stated that all they offer is a wire transfer (where you pay $) or you can transfer it to your savings account that you have with them from where you can use bill pay or an external ACH to get your money out - IF you do not have a savings account with them, then you're stuck because you can no longer open one up. So that leaves the only option as a wire transfer where you pay $. So in essence, they're saying "if you don't pay, you won't get your money". Unfortunately you cannot open up an account with Ameris and do the transfer because the two systems aren't linked - and won't be for a while (a merger Ameris did was 18 months ago still hasn't tied the two systems together).
So basically - pay up or you can't get your money out!
