Credit Union CD Specials - Oct 1st

This is a continuation of the best credit union CD deals. Every week I'll put together the top CD specials. I'll add new ones and remove expired ones. I've split the CDs into three groups: under 1 year, 1-to-2 year, and over 2 years. I was able to find 5% CDs for each group.

For the under 1-year group, the best continues to be the special at the Portland Teachers Credit Union. I posted about this three weeks ago. It's a 5-month CD with a 5.12% APY.

For the mid-term CDs, the best continues to be a 2-year CD at Gardens Savings Federal Credit Union which I first mentioned two weeks ago. The rate of this 24-month CD is 5.38% APY.

The long term CDs don't really get any better than the shorter term ones. You can get around 5.25% for 5-year CDs. There's one that's just under 3 years with a rate of 5% APY at Golden One Credit Union of Sacramento California.

You usually have to live near a branch to get one of these high interest CDs. I've included the city and state of the main branch so you can quickly determine if the deal is applicable to you. Note, many have branches in other cities, and credit unions may have other membership requirements besides location.

• 4.25% - 6m, $1K min, Parsippany, New Jersey, Garden Savings Federal Credit Union
• 4.10% - 6m, $20K min, Indianapolis, Indiana, Link Federal Credit Union (only $2K min for 4% 6m CD)
• 4.10% - 7m, $250 min, Norfolk, Virginia, Direct Federal
• 4.03% - 7m, $5K min, Dubuque, Iowa, Alliant Credit Union
• 3.89% - 6m, $1K min, San Francisco, California, Patelco Credit Union (not NCUA insured) (easy membership)
• 3.80% - 8m, $10K min, Santa Rosa/San Francisco, California, Redwood Credit Union (many other rate/min's)
• 3.75% - 6m, $5K min, San Francisco/Los Angeles, California, Provident Credit Union
