4.51% 4-Month CD at World Savings Bank

Jan 22, 2006 - 4:37 PM by Ken Tumin

World Savings Bank advertised in the January 19th San Francisco Chronicle a 4.51% APY 4-month certificate of deposit. The minimum required deposit is $25K, and it must come from a financial institution other than World Savings.

As is typical with World Savings, this CD isn't being advertised at World Savings' website. The branch-rates page has the 4-month CD with a rate of 4.41% APY. The internet-rates page has a 4-month Internet CD with a rate of 4.16% APY ($10K min).

The unadvertised 4.86% 6-month CD that I first reported about in late December may still be active. Two other good CD deals at World Savings' Internet Rates page includes a 5.14% 5-year CD and a 4.61% APY 8-month CD. Both have a $10K minimum deposit requirement. The 8-month CD requires new money.

First, thanks for all of your hard work. Your blog is fantastic and very helpful. I called a local branch of World Savings here in Mesa, AZ. I asked about the 4.86% deal, confirmed the details were the same as what I found on your blog/FW, and I reconfirmed the expiration date mentioned in a comment from one of your earlier posts on this offer. The bank associate told me that yes, the rate was good until 01/28/06. I also mentioned that I had found the info from banking blogs/finance forums, and that I did not have the fliers for the offer (because they were sent out in limited numbers, of course). The banking associate assured me that such wasn't a problem, stating that the fact that I know about the offer is good enough. Of course, YMMV to all others who are still going to get this CD, but my impression is that it's still perfectly valid until January 28th and that you don't need the flier.

Thanks for feedback and for providing the details about this 4.86% CD special. I'm glad World Savings is willing to honor the special to anyone who knows about it.

Great info, thanks guys.
Question: does anyone knows if funds from ING Savings Account can be tranfered directly to World Savings Bank.
Thanks.

From what I see at World Savings website, it doesn't seem that they have any ACH transfer system. However, you could open a World Savings checking account and then link it to ING savings account. I would think you could fund a CD from money in your checking account.

BTW, World Savings updated the rate on its 8-month internet CD from 4.61% to 4.76% APY.

I know you guys are talking about CDs but you can get 4.5% from US First Credit Union in San Francisco.

The call it a Schecking account - a combo of savings and checking.

I know it's not for the big savers but I thought the interest rate might appeal to some of your readers.

Love the blog by the way.
