More Details on the 5.26% 6-Month World Savings CD
Mar 21, 2006 - 3:35 PM by Ken Tumin
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, World Savings has another very nice unadvertised CD special. These deals only seem to be advertised by mailers to certain customers. Fortunately, World Savings allows others to get in on these deals if they are aware of the special from a friend who has received it. One commenter in my yesterday's post suggested that you mention that a "friend got a mailer that you are offering some CD with 5.26% APY". Some branches may handle these specials differently. So I would recommend contacting your nearest branch before visiting.
Also, a commenter noted a useful feature of these CDs that I had missed. They have a flexible maturity date. You can select terms from 6 months to 11 months with the same 5.26% APY rate. A 5.26% yield is so high, it may be worthwhile to get longer terms. As one commenter mentioned, a CD ladder may be a good idea.
Here are the full details of this special certificate of deposit:

Thanks for this information, it was most helpful. I had just opened a CD last week with World and they were great as I took the funds to the nearest branch in Brentwood, CA. Based on your tip, I called the branch and they graciously offered the 5.26 APY rate, but in order to get it, you have to come in person. For that high of a rate - I believe it's the highest I've seen, the trip is well worth it. Your suggestion about laddering is great too. AH

I have several cd's using their internet specials. Many times the
branch does not know about these
special rates, but as long as you have
a copy of the application form with the confirmation number they always do
honor it.

I have several CDs "specials" with them. One is coming due at the end of the month and I want to change it to this 5.26 APY CD, but my experience has been they really stick to their "new money" only requirement. So that means I'll have to close out the CD, take the money, and open a new one a few days later. This is a time waster and annoying, but the rate is too good to pass up, as I'm local.

If only world savings would do away with this "new money" annoyance.

Few more details.
I added $15K to my last $10K CD (new cd) totaling $25K in two CDs. Now they offered a lots of free services like Free Notary, Signature Assurance, Free Safe Locker and many more. These are Freebies for those who made atleast $25K struck in their accounts together. Petty good ah!!?

World Savings, I have 5 different CD's with various yields. I also use their internet only accounts and go into the bank in person to deposit the funds. The folks working there are so nice and helpful. Great rates.

When your CD matures at World if you mention you want to close it and bring it to another bank you can most likely get that higher rate. I was offered a rate higher then the bank I was going to take it to. The supervisor told me that they often have rates they can use to match other banks.

Coincidentally, I just learned of another World Savings CD secret special. Please refer to this new post.
When I opened a CD last month at World, I was hoping that I would get on their email list for future promos. But I didn't receive any info about this from World. Luckily, a reader notified me about it today.
