5.50% 6-Month CD at Citibank (available to all)
Jun 27, 2006 - 8:27 AM by Ken Tumin
Citibank has just started offering a 5.50% APY (5.35% APR) 6-month certificate of deposit that's available on Citibank's website. The minimum deposit is $500.
You can open and fund the CD online. The initial deposit can be done by an ACH transfer from another bank account or by a credit card or debit card (but beware of cash advance fees).
For those who live in Texas, Citibank has a special 6% 6-month CD that can be opened by phone or by visiting a Citibank branch. The CD requires a checking account if you visit a branch (see post).
With the new 5% rate on the e-Savings account and these CD specials, Citibank seems to be aggressively going after deposits. This should help push deposit rates higher at all banks.

Citibank is gettign really competitve. And, it allows me to keep all my money at one place.
Pulling all my money out of emigratn and ING....with the 5.0% esavings account, and now this, I'm a really happy camper. Citibank rules.
Especially with their new atms at 7 eleven.

Hey, I just applied for a 5.5% CD on the last day of the promotion. I haven't funded it yet (was told I have 30 days to fund all accounts), so I just wanted to check - does anyone know if I still get that 5.5% rate? Or do I only get the new 5.25% rate?

Unfortunately, the 5.50% 6-month CD (and 6% in Texas) is over. It's now 5.25%.
I remember speaking to a Citibank CSR early this month when the Texas 6% CD special was still available. I think he said that you would be locked in at the time of the application. I would suggest contacting Citibank to confirm.
