6.00% 7-Month CD at a Nevada CU

Silver State Schools Credit Union is offering a 6.00% APY (5.84% rate) 7-month certificate of deposit. The minimum is $5K. The CD allows you to add on funds in any amounts at any time during the term. This is a limited time offer.

The field of membership includes anyone who works or volunteers at Nevada schools. Also students over 16 in any Nevada school or college are eligible. There are additional companies and churches that are part of the FOM. Those outside of Nevada may be able to be eligible through sponsoring of the PBS Station, KLVX.

Once you meet the FOM, membership requires a $100 minimum deposit into their share savings account. This is higher than what typical credit unions require. Often it's only $25 or $5 minimum.

The credit union is not NCUA insured. Like Patelco, deposits held at the credit union are privately insured up to $250K per account by the American Share Institute (ASI). Refer to my yesterday's post on Patelco's new CD for a discussion on ASI vs NCUA.
