HSBC Signup Bonuses - Online Savings Account and Checking Account

Early this year, HSBC was offering a $25 signup bonus for their Online Savings Account and a $55 signup bonus for their Smart Checking Package. Those have ended. They seem to have some new signup bonuses. As is typical with HSBC bonuses, they don't clearly advertise them on their main websites. However, I was successful in receiving both of these last December and last March. These new ones are a little different so "your miles may vary".
The first is a $25 Best Buy Gift Card for opening the HSBC Online Savings account. Here's the promotional page. The offer expires on 8/31/06.
A reader sent this info to me after receiving this link from a friend. I was a little concerned over the small print that stated "Must be a Best Buy cardholder to qualify for gift card offer." So I called the number at the end of the small print. This number seemed to be associated with the Best Buy credit card. I then was referred to a Mastercard number which was a dead end. I then called an HSBC help number. HSBC then referred me back to the first number I called. It appears this promotion is associated with Best Buy's credit card. You may have to apply for their credit card to be eligible for this offer. If you have any luck in getting more info about this deal, please leave a comment.

The second signup bonus is for HSBC's Smart Package with a interest checking account. They're offering a one-night free stay and free breakfast for two at a Marriott Hotel for opening an interest checking account by 6/30/06. Also required is setting up direct deposit or an initial deposit of $3K by 7/31/06. Here's the promotional page for this offer. Credit for this find goes to this SlickDeal thread.
For this Marriott offer, you may be able to transfer the $3K from the checking account into the Online Savings Account and still qualify for the award. Without direct deposit, you're able to avoid fees on the Smart Package by having $3K in combined balances (see HSBC checking account overview). I was told by the HSBC CSR that must have had the Best Buy credit card by June 1st to qualify for this $25 Best Buy Gift Card offer.
