6.00% 15-Month / 6.00% 30-Month CD at a Florida Bank (Peoples First).

Peoples First Community Bank is advertising a 6.00% APY 15-month or 30-month certificate of deposit. The minimum is $5K. It requires customers have or open a Peoples First checking account. The bank does offer a free checking account without minimum balance requirements or monthly fees. The rate is valid through August 11th. The special doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. It was listed in today's Daytona Beach Newspaper. The ad is available online here.

This latest special is an improvement over what the bank was offering last month (6% for 33 months). The bank has been offering competitive CD specials over the last several months.

Peoples First has branches throughout Central and North Florida including the cities of Jacksonville, Panama City, Tallahassee, Pensacola, Altamonte Springs, Apoka and Kissimmee.

The bank has been FDIC insured since 1983. Bankrate.com gives it a financial rating of 5 out of 5 stars (superior).

It is a good rate so I telephoned the bank. The offer is available to anyone, regardless of where you live. However, in order to apply for the account you must appear IN PERSON at the bank. For me that was a deal killer.

Thanks for checking on this. Perhaps those who vacation in Florida may be able to take advantage of this.
