Last Two Days to Open World Savings 6.01% 9-Month CD
Aug 25, 2006 - 8:56 AM by Ken Tumin
Tomorrow is the last day for World Savings' unadvertised 6.01% APY 9-month certificate of deposit special. Refer to this post for the details.
A reader mentioned that World is advertising a 5.61% APY 8-month CD in Southern California. Like the 6.01% special, it has a $10K minimum, however, it does not require new money. This is listed at their branch rates page for Orange County zipcodes. For Texas, the rate is a little lower at 5.56% APY.
World still is offering two nice internet CDs: 5.51% APY 5-month CD and a 5.91% APY 13-month CD.

I opened this 6.01% 9mo CD with WS two days ago in NJ. I found that most of WS' customers r age 60+. I was the one who look like their grandson's age. Let's hope the CD interest rate doesn't go down 9 months from now. Or let's hope that WS offers a 2-3 years longer term CD.

That's funny, anonymous!
I noticed the same thing when I went in there to open my CD earlier this week!

I opened a CD yesterday. The branch manager (in a CA branch) told me that the CD special was being extended another week to 9/2/06

I opened my CD a few days ago and I am one of those "age 60+", and please, give us a break! We know a great CD rate when we see one. We still want to make money too.

The 1-week extension on the 6.01% CD special may be dependent on your local branch. I was told it's not being extended at my Texas branch. The CSR didn't know of any new specials (or at least didn't divulge any). She only mentioned the 8-month CD special.

Re: 9/2, the original ad stated that funds maturing by Sept 2 can still take advantage of the offer if you arrange for World to do the xfer by the Aug 26 deadline.
In my case, I didn't arrange for World to do the xfer, but they did issue a rate guarantee slip that's good until Sept 2.
So, this may be a case of a manager being more flexible with the terms, rather than an actual extension of the offer.
