6.00% 10-Month / 6.00% 4-Month CD at a Washington DC CU (HEW)

HEW Federal Credit Union has two new certificates with an APY of 6.00%. The 10-month term CD has a minimum deposit of $1,000. The 4-month or 120-day CD has a minimum of $100K. New money is required.

HEWFCU is also offering a $100 bonus for opening a free checking account with direct deposit and a Visa check card.

The field of membership includes those who live, work, worship or attend school in Washington D.C. An initial minimum deposit of $5 into a savings account is required for membership.

The credit union is NCUA insured.

Their online application -- which is a real bastard to find on their website, BTW -- doesn't tell you until the very end of the signup that the maximum initial funding is a measly $2,505.

Screw that. If I can get 5.5% from ELoan in a liquid account, what's the point?

That is a major issue with their online application (For others, the link is at the right on this page). The min and max ACH deposit should be noted on the front page before you even begin.
