New Internet CD Special at World Savings - 5.61% 4-Month

Oct 12, 2006 - 6:33 PM by Ken Tumin

World Savings changed its top Internet CD special today from a 5.76% 13-month CD to a 5.61% APY 4-month CD. It has the typical internet special requirements: $10K minimum deposit, $100K maximum, not available in branches and new funds only.

The trend of falling long-term rates can be seen in these internet certificate specials over the last two months. On August 31st, the 6.01% 15-month internet special came out. On September 18th, this was changed to a 5.76% 13-month internet special.

For those who live near a branch, World Savings is still offering a 6.01% APY 7-month CD. Note this is an unadvertised special. Only certain customers were sent mailers on it. But if you specifically request this special, most branches will honor it. Many people have described their experiences in opening this CD in my previous post. Your comments are much appreciated!

For those who have a CD maturing at World, you may want to try to get them to match a competitor's CD. In that way you can avoid the new money hassle. I was successful in getting them to match a 6% APY 6-month CD that Citibank is offering in Texas (see post).

The best advertised branch CD special is currently a 5.56% APY 5-month certificate of deposit. Rates vary by state.

WOW! Check this out. It is absolutely true: "Rates vary by state." When I go to the World Savings website and click to see "More Rates" the website asks you to enter a zip code. I usually enter whatever, even 00000 works. Other websites know that is false and therefore wouldn't accept it. My point is, when Banking Guy mentioned the other feature rate of 5-month @ 5.56%, I didn't believe it. I still saw 5.51% for zips 11111 and mine 90807. But when I entered a Texas zip, 76621, lo and behold, 5.56%.
