10% 7-Month CD at a California CU - $1K Max (Wescom). - Update

Wescom Credit Union is having another grand opening special only for this week in which it's offering a 10% APY 7-month certificate. The minimum and maximum deposit is $1,000. Only one CD per member. The offer ends on Saturday, November 4 and is available only at the credit union's Chula Vista branch. A $50 signup bonus for a new checking account with direct deposit is also available. The $15 credit union membership fee will be waived during this week.

Wescom is having a lot of growth. Last August, I had reported on this same type of promotion at a grand opening of another branch.

The $1K cap is low. Earning 10% on $1K for 7 months results in about $26 over keeping it an account earning 5.50%. However, each member of you family could open one which would make it a little better of a deal.

There's also a checking account bonus available at any of Wescom branches. This one is a $25 Starbucks gift card for opening your first checking account with a $100 deposit. This doesn't require direct deposit and is available for their free checking account. The offer ends 11/30/06.

The field of membership includes those who live, work, worship or attend school in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara or Ventura counties.

Chula Vista is located on the southern side of San Diego. The credit union has dozens of branches around southern California.

Wescom is NCUA insured. It's a large credit union with $3.4 billion in assets and almost 273K members.
