5.55% 5-Month CD at a South Carolina Bank (First Federal)

First Federal has a "Rock Star Special" at their Hilton Head and Bluffton, SC branches on March 5th to 9th. The special includes a 5.55% APY 5-month certificate of deposit with a minimum deposit of $1,000. Also, the first 5 new checking account customers in each branch will receive a iPod shuffle. The special is not listed at the bank's website. A reader mentioned this deal in the comments, and I called for additional information.

Went in about 11 this morning to open a CD thinking the Ipods were long gone. Much to my surprise two remained at the branch on the crcle at HY 278. Opened a free old fart checking account with free checks (min deposit of $50). Can close out the checking account at any time as I have my Ipod.
Should be many remaining Ipods over the next 4 days.

First Federal is now offering an online-only 5.55% APY 7-month CD as of 4/20/07. It's available to people in NC, SC, GA and FL. See post for more info.
