5.90% 72-Month CD at a Missouri Bank - and 6.11% IRA (Garden City)

Lead Bank
Garden City Bank continues to offer very competitive rates on its long term certificates of deposit. The high rates include a 5.90% APY for a 72-month CD and a 5.64% APY for a 60-month CD. The minimum deposit is $100. They're also advertising a special 6-year IRA CD with a yield of 6.11% APY.

Garden City Bank has been offering these rates through out 2007 and for much of 2006. My last report on them was in November. For awhile they were taking out-of-state deposits, but a reader left a comment in January stating that this has ended. When a small bank's high rates attract too much demand, they often will place an in-state or branch-visit requirement.

The bank is located in Garden City, Missouri which is about 30 miles southeast of Kansas City. It has been FDIC insured since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 8283).

Opened a CD at Garden City Bank today. It was about 45 miles away but worth the drive for the 5.9% APY on a large CD for 72 months with FDIC insurance. Best rate in the Kansas City area and the service at the bank is phenominal! Expect to wait a while in line to open a CD if you visit on a Saturday morning as there is only one person on duty, but the small town hospitality was great!

Thanks for the info. Glad to read you were able to open this CD without problems. With lower interest rates looking more likely, these high yield long term CDs are looking better each day.
