5% Checking Account (until 10/31) and 5.50% 12-month CD at Legacy Bank in Georgia

Legacy State Bank is offering 5% APY on its Free Interest Checking Account. The rate is guaranteed until 10/31/07. This special is not listed at the bank's website. A reader mentioned this in the comments, and I called for additional info. The banking rep said that the 5% is good on all balances. The Free Interest Checking has a minimum opening deposit of $100.

The bank also has a 12-month CD with a yield of 5.50% APY. The minimum deposit is $500. See rate table.

The bank branch is located in Loganville, Georgia which is about 25 miles east of Atlanta. It's a new bank that was just established in 2005. The bank is FDIC insured (FDIC Certificate # 57882).
