$100 Bank of America Checking Account Bonus

Aug 6, 2007 - 7:33 PM by Ken Tumin

Bank of America
Bank of America has a new $100 checking account promotion. Here's the link to the promotional page. The promo code is AOU2608. The offer expires 10/31/07 and is available through the online application. I noticed in the online application that you can select the special MyAccess Checking offer which states that it'll be free with no direct deposit requirement and no minimum balance required.

Some important details from the offer's small print include: The minimum deposit required to open a new, personal checking account and receive the $100 offer is $100. Offer does not apply to second or multiple checking accounts and/or existing checking customers. Money will be deposited within 90 days of opening your new account. Limit one check per household. Value of the offer will be reported to the IRS on Form 1099.

Unlike the last $100 BoA bonus that I posted on, this one is not only for BoA credit card customers.

There are some things to note regarding BoA. First, many have reported that BoA does a hard credit inquiry on your first checking account. This can ding your credit score a little for a few months. Also, it can take patience and persistence to receive the bonuses. The bonuses that I've received only came after reminding them using their online message system. Others have had to make many calls to a banking rep. Not everyone is successful. Finally, be sure to keep an eye on your statements to make sure no fees start popping up. You might want to make a copy of the application where it states that the MyAccess Checking will be free. BoA also charges for things that you might expect are free. For example, if you make an outgoing ACH transfer, there's a $3 charge (see BoA page).

Thanks to the reader noSSnumber who mentioned this bonus in the finding deals post.

Update 8/7/07: Several readers have reported that the online application for this promo crashes before it finishes.

I just tried to apply. The online application crashed and I could not complete the process. Plus they try to cross sell so many other things, a fee-based savings, a credit card and this was when I could not even complete the process !!!

I just tried to apply as well and the application crashed on me. What a lousy app! It crashed on step 3, funding the account.

when you say a $3 charge for outgoing does that mean if I make the request from say FNBO to withdraw from BOA I would be charged as well or is it only if the transaction is initiated through BOA?

Just if you initiate it from BOA. If you initiate a pull of funds from FNBO or another bank, there should be no charge.

I sign up mid-day on the 7th, everything went fine. Did get a note at end that needed additional time to verify and I would be notified within 48 hours. Received a welcome e-mail within 3 hours. TNT

Do you think this offer can be combined with BoA's customer referral program?
