iPod nano Checking Account Bonus at ViewPoint Bank (Nationally Available)

POSTED ON BY

ViewPoint Bank, National Association
ViewPoint Bank is offering an iPod nano when you open a new Beyond Free Checking Account. The promotion requires 2 direct deposits of at least $600 to be made before 12/31/07. The minimum opening deposit is $100.

From my online chat with the bank rep, I was told that this offer is available to US citizens in any state. You can open the checking account via this online application. After you submit this application, they'll send you an email within 24 to 48 hours with further instructions on how to open the account. If you don't visit a branch, you may need to mail in a notarized signature form.

Below is some important small print on this bonus:
Once eligibility has been met, customer must return an Official Live Beyond Free iPod nano Claim Form by mail or via branch on or before December 31, 2007. Allow seven business days once Claim Form is received and verified for item to be shipped to eligible customer. By claiming this gift, you acknowledge that ViewPoint Bank may report its value to the IRS as required by law.

There's a $25 closure fee if closed within 6 months. Direct deposit must be set up within 60 days of opening the account or account will automatically convert to a ViewPoint Checking account. If there is no activity on this account as of the first day of the 6th month, the account will convert to a ViewPoint Checking account. The ViewPoint Checking account requires a $1,500 balance to avoid a $9/month fee. More details and potential fees are listed in the account disclosure (pdf) and in the checking comparison chart (pdf)

Branches are locatd in the Dallas, Texas metro area. The bank is FDIC insured (Certificate # 58006).

Thanks to the reader who emailed me info on this special.

If I'm not mistaken, you need to make 2 direct deposits (of whatever amount) to be eligible for the promo. However, you need to have atleast $600 worth of direct deposits every month - or the account will be converted to a ViewPoint Checking account, and then the $9/month fees apply.

Yes, I think you're right. You have to maintain the $600/month DD to prevent the conversion.
