5.40% 12-Month CD at a California CU - Open To All (Kinecta)

Kinecta Federal Credit Union has some competitive yields on its promotional share certificates. The 12-month and 6-month yields are 5.40% APY and 5.30% APY with a minimum deposit of $100,000. The yields for a minimum deposit of $1,000 are 10 basis points lower.

Field of membership includes members of a non-profit society called the Consumers Cooperative Society of Santa Monica. Membership into this society is open to any individual. There's a one-time membership fee of $10. You can also be eligible to join Kinecta via Select Employer Groups and via family. Only a $5 deposit in the savings account is required for credit union membership.

One nice thing about Kinecta is that it has an online banking system in which you can open CDs online. They've had many CD specials in the past. The last one I reported on was in January.

Kinecta has branches in several California cities including Brea, Hawthorne, Irvine, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Santa Monica, Upland and Westminster.

The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 4142). It's a large credit union with $3.9 billion in assets and 200,603 members.

That co-op sure could use a spell checker for its website. Also, their phone is disconnected.

Kinecta purchased Nix Check Cashing in S. California and will open membership to residents who live in the area around a former Nix Check Cashing location.

I don't know if this is good or bad for the credit union.
