POSTED ON BY

Fairwinds Credit Union
Fairwinds Credit Union is offering a special 5.50% APY 9-month certificate. The minimum deopsit is $500. This is also available as an IRA certificate. A yield of about 6.00% APY is available for members who've earned 5,000 relationship rewards.

The rates on Fairwinds' standard certificates have gone down over the last couple of months. Standard yields had been around 5.60% APY for both short and long term CDs.

The best long-term CD deals in Central Florida are currently at CFE Federal Credit Union where the long term yields continue to range from 5.54% to 5.64% APY (see post).

Field of membership includes those living or working in the following Central Florida counties: Brevard, Polk, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. There's also a large list of select employer groups. In addition, active or retired military personnel or dependents receiving military benefits are eligible.

Membership application can be done online. Accounts can be funded using an electronic transfer from another financial institution. The cost of membership is a little higher than typical: $10 fee plus a minimum deposit of $50 to their share savings account.

Branches are located in Orlando and throughout Central Florida. Fairwinds is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 68417). It's a large credit union with $1.46 billion in assets and 139,397 members.
