5.50% 13-Month CD at an Illinois Bank (Second Federal Savings).

Update 12/15/07: This CD special is no longer available.

Second Federal Savings is offering a special 5.50% APY 13-month certificate of deposit. The minimum deposit is $2,500. New money is required. It's also available in an IRA certificate.

This special doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me info on this, and I called today for further details. According to the service rep, it's available at all of their branches. A branch visit is required, and you must live within 5 miles of a branch.

The bank has 5 branches located in Chicago, Fox Lake, Cicero and Aurora, Illinois. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 27986).
