Update 10/04/09: The top rate has fallen to 2.75% APY. See bottom of the post for the rate history.
Rollstone Bank and Trust is offering a reward checking account called All-In-One Checking. It pays 2.75% APY on balances up to $50K (1.47% APY over) if the following monthly requirements are met: 1) 10 debit card purchases, 2) direct deposit of your payroll, pension or social security check, and 3) receive electronic statements. The minimum deposit to open the account and to earn interest is $100.
Update 2/6/08: Readers have reported being told by the bank that you must live within 50 miles of a branch, and the accounts must be opened in the branch.
Branches are located in Fitchburg, Leominster, Harvard and Townsend, Massachusetts. Like many of the reward checking accounts offered in Massachusetts, this one pays the high yield on balances up to $100K. Outside MA, the average cap tends to be $25K.
The bank is FDIC insured (Certificate # 17797).
