Extended 5% Cash Back Promo for Citi Dividend Credit Cards

POSTED ON BY

Citibank
For those with Citi Dividend Credit Cards, Citi is offering a promotion in which you can earn 5% cash back on purchases made at Department, Electronics and Apparel Stores with your Citi Dividend Card for 3 months once you activate this offer. I just checked my Citi account, and activated it. When you log in, select the "Special offers" link under the "Manage Your Account" menu. It may not be available for everyone, but most people on this SlickDeals thread are reporting success.

For those who don't have a Citi Dividend Credit Card, I don't know if this will be available if you sign up for this card. You can qualify for 6 months of 5% cash back for purchases at supermarkets, drugstores, gas stations, convenience stores and utilities. After the first six months, the cash back is 2%. All other purchases earn 1% cash back. Here's the promo page link.

I signed up for this yesterday after seeing the deal at SD. Contacted them later in the evening to ask whether deal was good on-line or at B&M stores only. Also asked if 5% cash back applied to purchases at WalMart. When I called not even a supervisor had these answers. I tried the on-line contact option next. Answer came back to call the same number I already had called. When I wrote back telling them this, they answered saying they would forward question to proper party. They said I should expect an answer in the mail within ten to fifteen days!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't publish my reaction here. Banking Guy would remove this post; and with good reason. Suffice it to say their inability, or unwillingness, to answer simple, straightforward questions was infuriating. My take is they are simply trying to preserve their option to deny the cash back when and wherever they please, and for as long as possible. My counsel to you re this offer: assume NOTHING!!

The thread you referenced now shows a lot of people saying they've signed up but Citi saying the promo never existed. I saw it as an option on Citi the last time I logged in and decided to sign up later. Now it isn't available--darn! Have you gotten any $ from this?

I'll have to check my statement also. I made some large purchases with my Citi card on Black Friday and was hoping to make use of this extended cash back bonus. Looks like I should have called Citi to confirm this. It's a good example of how things on the web can disappear with no records.

The author of the SD thread included a snapshot of the promotion details that was on Citi. This should be useful if we need to contest this with Citi.

I signed up on 19 Nov. Just received my Dec statement and all purchases were at different department and clothing stores so they should have all qualified for the 5%.

Instead they only gave me the normal 1%.

Have not had a chance to call them yet.

Banking Guy - did your statement come in yet?

Thanks.
