5.00% 12-Month CD at a Dallas Bank - plus $77 Checking Bonus (Century).

Century Bank is having a grand opening special this Saturday, January 19th. The specials include a 5.00% APY 12-month certificate of deposit. The minimum deposit is $1,000. A new or existing checking account is required. You also can get $77 when you open a new checking account. This CD isn't listed at the bank's website. It was advertised in today's Dallas Morning News. The ad is available online here.
According to the ad, the offers are valid from 1/19/08 to 1/21/08 at their new branch at 4301 Lovers Lane in University Park which is in the Dallas, Texas area. Century Bank does offer a free checking account that pays ATM fees charged by other banks.
Last year Century Bank had been offering these kinds of special CDs with yields up to 5.50%. The 5% from the current special isn't great, but in today's rate cutting environment, it's not bad.
The bank has been FDIC insured since 1934 (Certificate # 3361).
