More Savings Account Rate Cuts - UFB Direct, Capital One

Jan 9, 2008 - 9:08 AM by Ken Tumin

Capital One Direct Banking
I'm afraid the cuts continue. UFB Direct cut the yield on its Absolute Savings account from 5.22% to 5.12% APY (see my review for account details). Capital One cut rates on its Costco money market account (4.30% APY, was 4.55%) and its High Yield Money Market account (4.00% APY, was 4.30%).

I've recently noticed Capital One started an Online Savings Account that pays a higher rate than the HYMM. I noticed it a few days ago when the top yield was 4.50% APY. It's now 4.25% APY. The top yield is only for balances of over $10,000. Balances below this earn 3.75% APY. Unlike the HYMM, there are no checks. Deposits and withdrawals are intended to be made with ACH transfers.

Thanks to the readers who've provided rate updates in the finding-the-best-rates post.

Grand Yield Direct has been solid since they started. That's just a .05% rate drop. Emigrant Direct looks good too now at 4.65%. I am dissapointed in AmtrustDirect though with 4.60%

Emigrant Direct's Spanish version, Banco Fortuna, is at 5.05%. I believe it has been mentioned here by Banking Guy.
