4.24% 24-Month / 4.19% 12-Month CD at a DC Credit Union (Signal Financial).

Update 3/22/08: The CD rates have gone down. Please check the financial institution's website for the latest rates.

Signal Financial FCU is still offering promotional rates on the 24 and 12 month share certificates. The rates are much lower than they were last year, but they're still very competitive. The 24-month term has a yield of 4.24% APY and the 12-month term has a yield 4.19% APY. The 24-month term has a minimum deposit of $5,000, and the 12-month term has a minimum of $2,500. These require money new to the credit union. My last report on these CDs was on December 2007.

They also have longer term CDs with yields over 4% which are competitive in today's rate environment. The yields for terms of 48, 60 and 72 months are 4.24%, 4.34% and 4.45% APY. The minimum deposit is $500.

The credit union is still advertising on its home page a $101 bonus for opening a checking account with direct deposit.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Washington, DC or inside the Beltway in Prince George's County, Maryland. Membership is also available to members of Artemis Racing. Please refer to the credit union's membership page for more details. An application to Artemis Racing is available at this page. Artemis Racing membership costs $25. Credit union membership requires a $5 deposit into the main savings account.

Branches are located in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 5571). It has $244.1 million in assets and 32,761 members.

The flyer for the $101 checking account bonus has a date of June 30th now. I think the original deal expired April 30th. Looks like it has been extended. I think I might take them up on this.
