Dedicated to Deposits: Deals, Data, and Discussion

4.89% 60-Month / 4.73% 12-Month CD at a California/Arizona CU (United Methodist).

Update 3/29/08: The CD rates have fallen. Please check the credit union's website for the latest rates.

United Methodist Federal Credit Union continues to have some competitive certificate rates. The Jumbo CD rates with a $100K minimum deposit have yields that range from 4.68% APY for a 6-month term to 4.89% APY for a 60-month term. Yields are reduced by about 5 basis points for each of the following minimum deposit tiers: $50K, $30K, $15K, $5K and $1K. They also offer a 24-month and 60-month IRA CD with yields of 4.78% APY and 4.89% APY. These have minimum deposits of only $1,000 and $2,500.

I last reported on this credit union in January when it was offering CD rates over 5%. A reader mentioned that the board meets on the 22nd of each month to modify rates as necessary. So after yesterday's big Fed rate cut, it's likely that these CD rates will soon be lowered.

Membership is open to clergy, staff and congregations of several western conferences of the United Methodist Church. Please refer to their Membership page for the full details. Membership requires a $5 fee and an initial minimum deposit of $100 in your share savings account.

Branches are located in Montclair, California and Phoenix, Arizona. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 5816). It has $47.8 million in assets and 4,470 members.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned these CD rates in the comments.
