4.03% 6-Month / 4.03% 12-Month CD at a California CU - Jumbo (American First).

American First Credit Union
Update 5/3/08: The CD rates have fallen. Please check the credit union's website for the latest rates.

American First Credit Union is offering a competitive rate on its 6 and 12-month share certificates. For a Jumbo certificate the yield is 4.03% APY. This requires a $100,000 minimum deposit. A yield of 3.77% APY is available with only a $1,000 minimum. These rates are also available in an IRA. The rate table has a date of 4/1/08, so it seems likely these rates will last through April.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Orange County or 16 additional cities throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. You can also be eligible via select employer groups. For more details, please refer to their Open-an-Account page. Membership requires a $5 fee and a minimum initial deposit of $50 in the savings account.

Branches are located in the cities of La Habra, Buena Park, Tustin, Placentia and Orange. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 68485). IT has $670.4 million in assets and 73,395 members.

Other CD Deals

The best 6 and 12-month CD rate without deposit limitations and that's nationally available continues to be at Indymac Bank with a yield of 4.15% APY (see post). For other CD rates, please see my latest weekly CD rate summary.

I will report your misleading wild advertised interest rates to the CA attorney general.  The use of outdated high rate come-ons is despicable.  I wouldn't do business with any outfit that advertises on your sites.
