4.15% 42-Month CD at BB&T Bank

BB&T Bank is offering a special 4.15% APY 42-month CD. The minimum deposit is $1,000, and the maximum is $99,999. It doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me info on this, and I called for additional details.

BB&T also has a checking account promotion in which you get the Plus Package at no charge when you open the Free checking account. The two notable perks are free checks and a $40 annual rebate. However, the $40 annual rebate requires some work. Here's how it's described: "receive up to $40 annually just by submitting receipts for everyday purchases."

The banking rep said that a branch visit would be required to open the CD. Branches are located in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1934 (Certificate # 9846).
