3.25% Reward Checking Account at a Texas Bank (Vintage)

POSTED ON BY

Vintage Bank
Update 11/29/09: The top rate is now only paid on balances up to $100,000. Refer to the bottom of the post for the rate history.

Vintage Bank has a reward checking account that pays 3.25% APY on balances up to $100,000 (1.30% over) and refunds ATM fees worldwide if the following monthly requirements are met:
  • 10 debit card transactions
  • one ACH transaction
  • electronic statements

If these are not met, the rate falls to 0.25%. The minimum opening deposit is $200. There are no minimum balance requirements and no monthly service charges. One nice perk is free checks for life.

Unfortunately, they require you to come into a branch to open the account. Also, I was told you must be a Texas resident. Branches are located in Midlothian, Glenn Heights and Waxahachie which are located just south of Dallas, and in Bartlett which is located about 40 miles north of Austin. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 3089).

Thanks to the reader Chester who mentioned this reward checking account in the comments.

Thank you, Banking Guy.

You saved me a call to get my two answers:

You have to go into the branch...

...and you have to be a Texas resident to qualify for this account.

Vintage dropped their rate to 3.01% and maximum balance to $50,000 on 8/24/10.  Over $50,000 earns 1%.
