4.25% 15-Month CD at a Georgia Bank (Alpha Bank & Trust).

Update 10/24/08: The bank has been closed. Please refer to this post for details.

Update 6/28/08: The rates have gone up! Please see this post for more details.

Alpha Bank & Trust has started a new CD special with a yield of 4.25% APY and a term of 15 months. The minimum deposit is $1,000. The special is listed in their rate table.

No out-of-state deposits are accepted. However, a reader informed me last year that you can open the CD by phone if you live in Georgia.

The bank is still offering a 4.00% APY 9-month CD special that I first reported on in April.

Branches are located in Alpharetta and Marietta, Georgia which are in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. It's a fairly new bank that was established in 2006. The bank is FDIC insured (FDIC Certificate # 58241).

Alpha is a good bank to deal with, and they frequently have good promotional CD rates.

It's rated as only 1-star by Bankrate, and as a start-up by Bauer Financial.

When they first started, they accepted out-of-state funds, although they will not accept any new out-of-state customers.

Great bank, the friendliest staff, prompt calls back, but Flagstar beats local deals by .05% (their "loyalty" program).

Just something to keep in mind for those who like to consolidate.

I still have an account there hoping for 6% CD's again someday. :-)
