4.00% Reward Checking Account at a Hawaii CU (Hawaii USA)

Update 3/04/09: The top rate has fallen to 4.00% APY.

Hawaii USA FCU has started a reward checking account called Elite Checking that pays 4.00% APY on balances up to $25,000 (0.25% for above) and refunds ATM fees up to $20 per month if the following monthly requirements are met:
  • 10 debit card purchases
  • one direct deposit or ACH debit
  • receive eStatements
If these requirements are not met, the rate falls to 0.10%. Minimum $20 is required to open the account. There are no monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance requirements.

Membership is open to employees, retirees, students and their parents of most of the schools (pre-school through 12th grade) in Oahu and Maui. There's also a long list of Select Employee Groups in which you can be eligible to join. Please see their Who Can Join Page for the full details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $5 in the Primary Share Savings Account.

Branches are located in the Hawaii cities of Honolulu, Aiea, Kaneohe, Mililani, Waipahu, Kapolei and Kahului. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 1815). It has $943 million in assets and 126,533 members.
