Colonial Bank is offering a special 4.00% APY 4-month CD. The minimum deposit is $500. This special doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me info on this, and I called the bank for additional details. According to the CSR, it's available at all of their branches. A branch visit is required. He expected the special to last at least a couple of more weeks. Unlike some CD specials, this one does not require a checking account.

Branches are located in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas and Nevada. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 9609). It has a 3.5 star rating (good) at BauerFinancial based on 3/31/08 data.
