4.00% Money Market Account for 5 Months at First Bank
Aug 24, 2008 - 7:11 PM by Ken Tumin
First Bank is advertising a 4.00% APY money market account for balances of at least $10,000 with the 4% guaranteed for 5 months after the qualifying deposit. This doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. It was advertised in today's issue of the Florida newspaper, the Bradenton Herald. The ad is available online here. It was also advertised in an Illinois newspaper. This ad is available online here.
The Performance Money Market Account has no fees for balances over $1,000 ($10/month otherwise). It has the typical limited check writing for money market accounts (up to 3 per month). The rates for balances under $10K are low. The small print of the ad shows 0.75% for balances between $2.5K and $10K, and 0.25% for balances under $2.5K.
Branches are located in California, Florida, Illinois, Missouri and Texas. I've only seen ads for this 4% in Illinois and Florida, so I don't know if the branches in the other states will honor his special.
The bank has been FDIC insured since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 12229).

I am trying to get this yield to go at one of the banks in the Sacramento, CA area.
Called this morning and they said if I had a large enough deposit of new money they would give me the 4%, otherwise only 3.5%.
I expect a couple large CD's to mature in Sept and Oct. but don't know if yield will be available at that time. I wanted to open with the $10K and hold until the rest of the money was available.
Guess I will wait and see or perhaps another nice rate will come along.

I called today, 9-18-08, no 4.0% still available for CA. Did not ask about other states. Currently 3.5 she said.
