3.01% Reward Checking Account at a Georgia Bank (Touchmark National)
Update 3/28/10: The top rate has fallen to 3.01% APY. Please refer to the bottom of the post for the rate history.
Touchmark National Bank is offering a rewards checking account that pays 3.01% APY on balances up to $25,000 (1.01% for above) and refunds ATM fees of up to $25 per cycle if the following monthly requirements are met:
- 10 signature-based debit card purchases
- one direct deposit or automatic payment
- log into your online banking account
- receive electronic statements
If these are not met, the rate falls to 0.25%. The minimum initial deposit is $100. There are no monthly service charges or minimum balance requirements.
There's an online application for this account at this CheckingFinder page. This page only shows up at CheckingFinder when you enter a Georgia zip code, so it appears to be limited to Georgia residents.
Branches are located in Norcross, Duluth and Doraville, Georgia. It's a new bank that was established in January 2008. It's a member FDIC (FDIC Certificate # 58687).

The rate is still 4.18% which is amazing but the balance cap for the rate is dropping from $50K to $25K in October,2009. I just got a letter stating this from the bank.
