Provident Bank has a $100 checking promotion. The new checking account must be opened by 11/21/08, and the customer must have direct deposit and a Provident MasterMoney debit card by 12/31/08. Here are some important details from the small print:
  • Offer only available to residents of DC, MD, PA, VA or WV
  • Limit one per household
  • Minimum opening deposit of $25
  • Cash award will be deposited into checking accounts on or about 1/31/09
  • Customers will be responsible for applicable taxes
The Totally Free Checking qualifies for this promotion. It has no minimum balance requirements and no monthly maintenance fees.

This is the same bank that operates Providentdirect with a 3.75% APY online savings account (see post).

Thanks to the reader who emailed me news of this promotion.

I would also like to know whether they count ACH push (ING, Etrade) as direct deposit. Anybody have any experience?
