4.25% 6-Month CD at Guaranty Bank in California

POSTED ON BY

Guaranty Bank has ended its 4.50% 7-month CD special, but it still has a competitive yield of 4.25% APY for a 6-month CD. The minimum deposit is $1,000. This is only available for residents of California. Outside California, only a one year CD term is available at 4.25% APY which is much less competitive. These CDs are listed in the pdf documents available at this Guaranty CD page. These rates are also available as an IRA CD.

Guaranty Bank had been offering a special 5% 7-month CD for Los Angeles County residents last month. The special rate had gone down to 4.50%. I called Guaranty this morning and was told that it's no longer available.

The bank has some weak financial ratings: 2 stars (problematic) at BauerFinancial and 1 star (lowest) at Bankrate.com. Both are based on 6/30/08 data.

Guaranty Bank's headquarters is in Austin, Texas with branches in both Texas and California. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1988 (FDIC Certificate # 32618). Note, this is different than the Guaranty Bank at guarantybanking.com that's based in Wisconsin. A reader also noted a different Guaranty Bank in Colorado.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned this CD in the finding deals post.

Well...... I would say BEWARE!!!! I would never do business with Guaranty Bank again. Scary and frustrating. I called to close a large CD, they told me to fax a note in and it would be processed immeiately. I called on May 8 and faxed by 815 AM. They did not process my request until the 14th!!!! I did not recieve the check until the 19th!! But first they LIED and they said my check must have been lost in the mail and told me I needed to buy a BOND of Inurance. They used my money for 11 days. Had they would have told me this would happen... I would have requested a wire. But, then they said that would take 3 days to process too. In the mean time to get a closing stament....I have called and faxed 8 times. This is the flakiest unprofessional bank and I will never ever use them AGAIN!!! BEWARE!!!
