4.00% Reward Checking Account at Jefferson County FCU in Kentucky & Indiana

Update 4/11/09: The top rate has fallen to 4.00% APY and the balance cap has gone down to $25,000.

Jefferson County FCU is offering a reward checking account called Rewards Plus Checking. The account offers the following features if certain monthly requirements are met:
  • 4.00% APY on balances up to $25,000
  • 0.25% APY on balances over $25,000
  • 0.25% base rate if qualifications are not met
  • ATM fees refunded up to $15 per month
Rates are listed at the credit union's rate table as of 3/16/09. Effective date shown is 12/01/07. The monthly requirements include:
  • 10 debit card purchases in an aggregate amount of greater than $250
  • one direct deposit
  • one ACH debit
  • one bill payer transaction
  • receive e-statements
Additional features of the account regardless of the monthly requirements include:
  • no minimum balance requirements
  • no monthly fees
  • free bill payer
  • account is limited to one per member
Credit union membership is open to those who live, work, worship, or attend school in Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble Counties, Kentucky and Clark and Floyd Counties, Indiana. Refer to the credit union's Membership Page for more details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $25 in the share savings account.

The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 19853).

This reward checking account at Jefferson County is the first one that I've seen to require a minimum amount of purchases per month. For those who prefer to do most of their large purchases with a cash back credit card, this could be an issue.
