Add-On CDs with Rates up to 2.85% at 1st United Services Credit Union in CA

POSTED ON BY

1St United Services Credit Union
1st United Services Credit Union is offering some competitive rates on its Add-On Certificates. There's a 2.60% APY for an Add-On CD with terms of 12 to 24 months. Minimum deposit is $1,000. There's also an Jumbo Add-On CD with a 2.60% APY for 6 months and a 2.85% APY for 12 months. Minimum deposit is $100,000. In addition to the add-on feature, the Jumbo CD includes a rate bump-up feature and a penalty-free one-time withdrawal feature. These same CDs are also available as IRA certificates. These rates are listed at the credit union's rate table as of 3/12/09.

In addition to the Add-On CDs, the credit union has competitive rates on its bump certificates. Rates include a 3% APY for 24 months and 3.75% APY for 4 years. Minimum deposit is $2,000. The bump feature allows you to make one request for a higher rate if the credit union advertises a higher rate on that term. In this type of rate environment, I consider the Add-On feature more valuable. If rates continue to decline and stay very low, you can always fall back on an Add-On CD.

The credit union also has a competitive money market account that pays up to 3.00% APY on balances of at least $100,000. Balances from $25K to $100K earn 2.50% APY. Minimum opening deposit is $1,000, and there are no monthly fees.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, regularly works, or attends school in Alameda or Contra Costa Counties California. Refer to the credit union's Membership Page for more details.

Branches are located in the California cities of Alameda, Oakland, Berkeley, Pittsburg, Castro Valley, Rodeo, Fremont, San Leandro, Union City and Hayward.

The credit union has decent ratings for safety and soundness: 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com and 5 stars (superior) at BauerFinancial. Both ratings are based on 9/30/08 financial data. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 63958).
