3.05% 15-Month CD at Johnson Bank in Madison, WI - Local Only

Johnson Bank is having a CD promotion with two attractive rates: 3.05% APY for a 15-month term and a 3.55% APY for a 36-month term as of 5/28/09. Minimum deposit is $25,000. The 3-year CD allows a one-time penalty-free withdrawal of half the principal. This promotion doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me info on it, and I just called for additional info. The above special is available in Madison, WI. The specials and rates vary by city. In Milwaukee, there's a different CD special with lower rates. You can call to check what rates are available in your city. These rates may not last much longer. The reader mentioned that the 3.55% special is scheduled to fall to 3.40% on Monday.

A branch visit is required to open an account. Branches are located through out Wisconsin and in Arizona.

Johnson Bank has some solid ratings for safety and soundness: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 12/31/08 financial data. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1970 (FDIC Certificate # 20296).
