2.00% 10-Month CD and $75 Checking Account Bonus at Harleysville National Bank in PA - Local Only

Harleysville National Bank is offering a CD special with three fairly competitive rates: 2.00% APY for 10 months, 2.25% APY for 21 months and 2.50% APY for 37 months. Minimum deposit is $500. Checking account is required for the 10- and 21-month CD. These are also available in IRA CDs. These rates are listed in the bank's rates page as of 7/20/09. The reader who emailed me info of these CDs also mentioned some details not listed on the webpage. Maximum deposit is $50,000, and new money is required. An additional 0.10% can be added for ongoing direct deposit from employer into Harleysville checking account.

If you need to open a checking account to take advantage of these CDs, you may want to consider their GenGreen Checking. The bank is offering a bonus of up to $75 for opening this account, but it requires some time and some work. The first $25 is easy. You just have to open a new GenGreen account by 8/15/09 with activation of a Visa Check Card. To earn another $50 will take some work. They're offering 10 cents for each check card purchase or Web bill payment through 4/22/10 up to a maximum of $50.

It appears a branch visit is required to open accounts. Branches are located throughout 10 counties of eastern Pennsylvania.

The banks ratings for safety and soundness are fair: 3 stars (adequate) at BauerFinancial and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 3/31/09 financial data. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 7516).
