2.35% 9-Month CD & 2.15% 5-Month CD at EDS Credit Union in Several States - Local Only

POSTED ON BY

Update 10/22/09: The CD rates have fallen. Refer to the credit union's website for the latest rates and my latest EDS Credit Union posts.

EDS Credit Union is offering two competitive certificate specials: a 2.35% APY 9-month CD and a 2.15% APY 5-month CD. The 9-month CD has a $50,000 minimum deposit. The rate is 2.20% APY for a $1,000 minimum. The 5-month CD has a $25,000 minimum deposit. These specials are listed at the bottom of the credit union's rates page as of 9/08/09.

In addition to EDS employees, membership is open to persons who live or work in Collin County, Texas. Also, eligible are persons who live, work, worship or attend school within a 10-mile radius of certain EDS Credit Union locations (15-miles from the branch at 5640 Democracy Drive, Plano, TX 75024). For more details on eligibility, please refer to the credit union's membership page. Membership requires a minimum $5 balance in the Regular Savings Account.

Branches are located in Plano, Frisco and Carrollton, Texas; Santa Ana, California; Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Detroit and Troy, Michigan; Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; Herndon and Sterling, Virginia. Note, several branches are inside secure buildings (probably EDS facilities) and have limited access. These might be the branches excluded in the 10-mile radius membership criteria.

EDS Credit Union's ratings for safety and soundness are decent: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 3/31/09 financial data. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 68505).

I contacted my local (new branch in Santa Ana, Ca.) for information. They're in the process of merging with EDS, and the merge process will be complete on Nov 1. Until then, membership is still restricted to First American employees. After Nov 1, membership will be available to local residents.
