POSTED ON BY

Update 9/05/09: The 3% 9-month CD special has ended. Please check the credit union's website for the latest rates.

First Priority Credit Union is offering a special 9-month certificate with a 3.00% APY. This requires that you open a new checking account. The credit union is also offering other competitive rates on its standard certificates including a 2.75% APY for 24 months, 3.00% APY for 36 months and 3.50% APY for 60 months. These are also available as IRA certificates. These rates are listed in the credit union's rates page as of 9/01/09.

First Priority has a history of offering top rates on its regular and special certificates.

Membership is open to those who live and work in Massachusetts' Essex County or Suffolk County. Also eligible are employees, retirees and family members of the Postal Community. Please refer to the credit union's Membership page for more details. Membership requires a minimum deposit of $25 into your share savings account.

Branches are located in Boston, East Boston, Lowell and Waltham, MA.

The credit union has some strong ratings for soundness: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial and 4 stars (sound) at Bankrate. Both ratings are based on 3/31/09 data. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 66593).

Another great find banking guy, I live in Essex so as soon as I saw this I drove over and opened. You can only open one 3% CD, so I did a good size one, $150k. Can still do more 24 months 2.75% if I want. Thanks again and will be sending a little something for your usual great work

Thanks for the info. I was surprised to see them bring back this 3% CD. I hope it can last for a while.

There is a branch in Lowell, which is in Middlesex County. However Middlesex County is ineligible for membership.

Reason they have the branch in Lowell is because other than the main branch in East Boston their branches our located in post office's. Originally they only allowed accounts to Postal workers. Went today and opened another CD with them, Did the 24 month 2.75%, They also have 36 month 3%
