3.04% 24-Month CD at Icon Bank in Houston - Local Only

Update 10/05/09: The maturity has changed on this 3.04% CD. It's now a 30-month term rather than a 24-month term.

Icon Bank is offering a very competitive CD special with a 3.04% APY for a term of 24-months. Minimum deposit is $1,000. This special isn't listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me info on this, and I just called to verify it's still available. According to the CSR, it's available today (9/22/09), but it's subject to change at anytime. A checking account is required, but any of the bank's checking accounts qualify including the bank's free checking. The CD is also available in an IRA.

A branch visit is required to open an account. Branches are located in Houston, Webster and Katy, Texas.

The bank's ratings for safety and soundness are fair: 3½ stars (good) at BauerFinancial (based on 6/30/09 data) and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com (based on 3/31/09 data). The bank has been a FDIC member since 2007 (FDIC Certificate # 58378).
