2.50% 13-Month CD & 3.00% 25-Month CD at The East Carolina Bank - Local Only

The East Carolina Bank is offering three very competitive CD and IRA CD specials:

• 2.50% APY 13 month
• 3.00% APY 25 month
• 3.25% APY 36 month

Minimum deposit is $1,000, and the maximum deposit is $90,000. Multiple CDs can be opened so you can invest more than $90,000. These specials don't appear to be listed on the bank's website. A reader mentioned them to me, and I emailed the bank for details. I just received the above details today (10/14/09).

It appears a branch visit is required to open a CD. Branches are located throughout East North Carolina including the cities of Washington, Leland, Morehead City, New Bern, Currituck, Hatteras, Engelhard, Williamston, Wilmington, Hertford, Greenville and Columbia. Click on locations in the "About Us" link of the top menu on the bank's website for the addresses and phone numbers.

The bank's ratings for safety and soundness are a little mixed: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial and 2 stars (below peer group) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 6/30/09 financial data. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 2017).
