2.50% 13-Month CD at First Citizens Bank in SC & GA - Local Only

First Citizens Bank is offering a 2.50% APY 13-month CD special. Minimum deposit is $5,000, and the maximum is $250,000. The special isn't listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me news of this, and I called the bank today (10/05/09) for additional details. According to the CSR, a branch visit is required to open this CD. On the plus side, no checking account is required. The CSR didn't know how long this special will last. As usual it's subject to change at anytime.

Branches are located in several cities throughout South Carolina and Georgia. Some of the cities include Anderson, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Atlanta and Augusta.

The bank's ratings for safety and soundness are above average: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial (based on 6/30/09 data) and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com (based on 3/31/09 data). The bank has been a FDIC member since 1937 (FDIC Certificate # 15504).

You might recognize First Citizens Bank from recent news. On September 25th First Citizens Bank acquired Georgian Bank in an agreement with the FDIC after Georgian Bank was closed by regulators (see post).
