Top CD and Checking Account Rates at Industrial Credit Union in MA - Local Only

POSTED ON BY

Industrial CU (MA)

Industrial Credit Union is offering several very competitive CD rates. The following rates for a $1K minimum deposit are listed at the credit union's CD rates page as of 6/01/2010:

  • 1.70% APY 6 month CD
  • 2.00% APY 12-month & 18-month CD
  • 2.15% APY 24-month CD
  • 2.55% APY 36-month CD
  • 3.05% APY 48-month CD
  • 3.35% APY 60-month CD

I actually noticed these rates over the weekend, but the rate table had a May 1st date, and I was worried that they would drop today. It looks like they've held. The table now has a June 1st date, so hopefully these will hold through June.

Another plus with these CDs is a mild early withdrawal penalty which is listed at the bottom of the rate table: 3 months of interest for terms of more than one year and one month of interest for terms of one year or less.

In addition to top CD rates, the credit union has an excellent rate for its checking account called NOWPlus Checking. It has a 1.50% APY, and according to the NOWPlus Checking page, this rate is in effect through June 2010. It requires a minimum balance of $2,500 to receive for this rate. There are no monthly service charges.

According to the credit union's FAQ:

Anyone who lives or works in the Greater Boston area is eligible for membership. Once a member, always a member, even if you move to another state. To become a member, simply open a Savings, NOW or NOW Plus Checking Account, Certificate of Deposit or IRA. Membership is free and immediate!

The credit union's ratings for safety and soundness are a little weak: 3 stars (adequate) at BauerFinancial, 2 stars (below peer group) at Bankrate.com and an overall health score of 4 out of 5 at DepositAccounts.com (see our Industrial CU rates and reviews page). These ratings are based on 12/31/09 financial data. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 67994).
