Hot 6-Year CD Rate at Wildfire Credit Union in Michigan - Local Only

Wildfire Credit Union is offering a hot 6-year CD special. It's a 72-month CD with a 4.00% APY and a $2,000 minimum deposit. It's a grand-opening special for the credit union's new Bay City Branch that's only available through October 30, 2010. This is currently listed at the credit union's rates page as of 10/22/2010.

I reported on this credit union last month for its competitive standard CD rates. They have fallen a little since September, but they remain competitive. The best ones include a 3.00% APY 5-year CD and a 2.60% APY 4-year CD. At the top of the credit union rates table, it has an effective date of October 18 to 25, 2010.

At the bottom of the CD rate table, there's a link to the disclosure. According to the disclosure, the early withdrawal penalty for certificate terms of 36 to 59 months is only 4 months of interest. For terms of 60 months and longer, there's a 5-month penalty. These penalties are a little below the typical 6-month penalty.

Membership is open to those who live, work, worship or attend college in one of the following Michigan counties: Saginaw, Bay, Midland, Genesee, Gratiot, Shiawassee and Tuscola. Please refer to the credit union's membership page for the full details.
