High-Yield Reward Checking Account at Resource Bank in Illinois - Local Only

POSTED ON BY

Resource Bank (A Nat'l Bank)

We've been listing Resource Bank in our reward checking tables for the last year, but I have never done a review of this account. With a top rate, I thought it was worthwhile to it point out. Its reward checking account is called Extreme Green Checking, and it has the following rates if certain monthly requirements are met (as of 1/20/2011):

  • 4.09% APY on balances up to $25K
  • 0.50% APY for balances over $25K
  • 0.05% base rate if requirements are not met

The monthly requirements include:

  • 12 debit card purchases
  • 1 direct deposit or automatic payment
  • Receive e-statements

It's a free checking account with no monthly service charge or minimum balance requirement. I don't see any mention of ATM fee reimbursements. For those who want ATM fee reimbursements, they do provide the Perfect Checking account which provides worldwide ATM fee reimbursements. However, the Perfect Checking has a $8.95 monthly fee.

According to the bank's About page, the bank serves the greater DeKalb, Illinois area. If you live outside this area and want to open an account, it would be wise to call and verify you are eligible to open an account before driving to a branch.

The bank has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 3 out of 5 with a Texas Ratio of 44.35% (average) based on September 2010 data. Please refer to our financial overview of (Resource Bank, N.A. for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 3701).
