High-Yield Reward Checking Account at Hancock Bank & Trust in Kentucky

POSTED ON BY

Hancock Bank & Trust Company

I was reviewing the highest interest rates in our reward checking table, and I came across an account that's new to me. It looks like we've been listing the account since November 2010. The reward checking account not only has a top rate but also a top balance cap. This looks like an excellent deal for residents of Kentucky. The reward checking account is being offered by Hancock Bank & Trust, and it's called Green Rewards Checking. The account has the following rates and features if certain monthly requirements are met (as of 2/4/2011):

  • 4.00% APY on balances up to $40,000
  • 0.75% APY on portion of balance over $40,000
  • 0.10% base rate if requirements are not met
  • ATM fees refunded nationwide (up to $20 per monthly cycle)

Monthly requirements include:

  • 12 debit card purchases
  • 1 direct deposit or automatic payment
  • Receive free e-Statements

There is no monthly fee and no minimum balance. The minimum initial deposit is $100. The first order of checks is free.

There's an online application in the bank's Green Rewards Checking page. According to this online application, "to open an account at Hancock Bank and Trust you must reside within the state of Kentucky." So it appears that all residents of Kentucky are eligible to open an account. Please note that banks often change the availability of these accounts.

Branches are located in the Kentucky cities of Bowling Green, Hawesville, Lewisport, Cloverport and Madisonville.

The bank has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 3 out of 5 with a Texas Ratio of 11.58% (excellent) based on September 2010 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Hancock Bank & Trust for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 8128).
