Sun National Bank is offering a $100 bonus for opening its Sun Secure Checking account with direct deposit. This promotion doesn't appear to be listed at the bank's website. It was recently advertised in the nj.com. The ad is available online here. According to the small print, the account must be opened by March 31, 2011. The following is all of the small print (emphasis is mine):
$25 minimum opening deposit required. Offer available to new or existing customers that do not have a personal checking account with Sun. To qualify for the $100 bonus, a new Sun Secure Checking account must be opened between March 15 and March 31, 2011 with ongoing third-party direct deposit of payroll, social security or pension funds. Direct Deposit Service must be established by May 31, 2011. Qualifying customers will receive $100 bonus via direct deposit into their new Sun Checking account on/or about June 30, 2011, provided account is open and in good standing. All decisions regarding bonus eligibility are at the bank's sole discretion and are final. Other fees may apply. Limit of one bonus per household. A 1099 may be issued for tax purposes. Offer subject to change at anytime without notice.
The bank provides a useful account overview of the Sun Secure Checking account. The account has no monthly maintenance fees, and the first order of 50 checks are free. One thing to note is that online bill pay may not be free if the account is opened at a branch. According to this checking comparison chart, there's a $5.95 monthly fee for online bill pay.
My last post on this bank was two years ago when they were offering a $100 bonus for its Kapow! Checking. This account used to have a very competitive rate. The rate isn't that great now with a 0.90% APY on balances of at least $2,500. This is shown in the bank's online application as of 3/21/2011.
It appears this promotion is limited to New Jersey residents. The bank has branches in several New Jersey cities.
Sun National Bank has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 3 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 41.56% (below average) based on December 2010. Please refer to our financial overview of Sun National Bank for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1985 (FDIC Certificate # 26240).
